Name Origin

The name "Shenzhen" (深圳) means "Deep Ditches," referring to the deep irrigation channels in the area's rice paddies. Before 1980, it was a small fishing village of 30,000 people just across the border from Hong Kong. In 1980, it became China's first Special Economic Zone (SEZ), opening to foreign investment and free-market reforms. Today, it's one of the world's wealthiest cities, home to tech giants like Huawei, Tencent, and DJI.

Education & Universities

Shenzhen has rapidly developed its educational infrastructure with world-class universities. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is ranked as one of China's top young universities, and Shenzhen University is known for its strong engineering and design programs. The city also hosts campuses of international universities like Tsinghua Shenzhen and Peking University Shenzhen. The city's focus on innovation has created a unique educational ecosystem.

Metro & Transportation

Shenzhen's metro system has 17 lines covering 550+ km, making it one of the most efficient in China. The airport line connects Bao'an Airport (SZX) to Futian and Luohu districts in 40 minutes. The city also connects directly to Hong Kong via the Shenzhen Bay Port and Futian Checkpoint. However, with luggage, the metro can be challenging. Our private car service offers door-to-door convenience from the airport to any hotel or business district.

Natural Resources & Environment

Despite its rapid urbanization, Shenzhen has invested heavily in green spaces. The city has over 1,000 parks, including the massive Shenzhen Bay Park along the waterfront. The Wutong Mountains in the east offer hiking trails with views of Hong Kong. The city is located on the Pearl River Delta with a subtropical climate. Shenzhen's air quality is among the best in China's major cities due to strict environmental policies.
