The name "Xuchang" (许昌) means "Xu Prefecture." The city served as the Eastern Han capital from 196 AD when the warlord Cao Cao welcomed the child Emperor Xian here, making Xuchang one of the most important cities in Chinese Three Kingdoms history.
Xuchang is home to Henan University of Science and Technology and vocational colleges specializing in Jun porcelain craftsmanship. The city is also known as Jun City (钧都) for its world-famous Jun porcelain.
Xuchang does not have its own commercial airport. The nearest major airport is Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO), about 60 km away — approximately 1 hour by road. Xuchang is served by Xuchang East Railway Station on the Zhengzhou-Wuhan HSR corridor.

CGO is Henan Province main aviation hub. It has two terminals and serves flights to most major Chinese cities and international destinations. The drive to Xuchang via the S1 Airport Expressway and G4 takes approximately 1 hour.
Xuchang city itself has no commercial airport
The closest is Zhengzhou Xinzheng (CGO) at 60 km. High-speed rail from Zhengzhou to Xuchang takes just 20 minutes, but involves luggage and city transfers — our door-to-door car is more convenient.
High-speed hub - Eastern district
The main high-speed rail station on the Zhengzhou-Wuhan corridor. From here, Zhengzhou is 20 minutes by HSR, Luoyang is 45 minutes, and Wuhan is 2.5 hours. The station is about 5 km from the city center.

China legendary surgeon. Hua Tuo (145-207 AD), one of China most famous physicians, served at the imperial court during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and is associated with the Xuchang area. Hua Tuo is credited with inventing mafeisan (麻沸散), an herbal anesthetic used during surgery — making him one of the first surgeons in world history to use general anesthesia.
Hua Tuo temples and shrines throughout China honor his medical contributions.
Henan medical master. Zhang Zhongjing (150-219 AD), another legendary physician of the late Han/Three Kingdoms period associated with Henan, wrote the Shang Han Za Bing Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases), one of the foundational texts of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
His formulas remain the basis of TCM diagnosis and treatment today.

Xuchang has no airport — your Zhengzhou Airport (CGO) transfer is essential. The 60 km journey is not covered by regular taxis or ride-hailing apps from Xuchang. Book at least 24 hours ahead so we can coordinate with your flight.
Do not buy Jun porcelain from tourist shops in Zhengzhou — go directly to the Jun Porcelain Industrial Park in Xuchang. You can watch the craftsmen work, negotiate directly, and buy at factory prices. Ask your driver to take you to the best workshops.
The Cao Cao Government Office opens at 8:30 AM and is least crowded in the morning. Visit first, then walk to the old city walls and Wei Emperor Palace nearby. Combine all three Three Kingdoms sites in one morning.
The small streets around the Cao Cao Government Office have excellent local food stalls — try the steamed buns, spicy flat noodles, and walnut crisps. Your driver knows the best stalls that locals frequent.
The Sanpianxia old city market near the Three Kingdoms district comes alive on weekends with food stalls, souvenir vendors, and street performers. If you visit on a weekend, go in the evening when the atmosphere is best.
Xuchang is only 80 km from the Shaolin Temple — the birthplace of Chinese martial arts and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many visitors combine a Three Kingdoms Xuchang tour with a day trip to Shaolin. Your driver can arrange both in one day.
